I Like Mud - Spring Sensory Activity
Lyn Goff, preschool teacher and creator of Mrs. Goff's Pre-K Tales, shared this fun sensory activity that we think would fit perfectly into your spring weather lessons. A jump-off of the traditional, "April showers bring May flowers", Lyn and her kiddos explored how April showers also bring...MUD! Not only does this activity provide a super fantastic sensory experience, we love that it also has literacy and poetry components!
Making Mud
As I'm sure you can guess, the sensory component of the lesson had Lyn's kiddos creating and playing in mud! We can only imagine the looks of wide eyed wonder as she pulled out the water and dirt {and large bins, of course!} and said to go to town! [NOTE: Giving parents a heads up so that they can send some extra clothes might be a good idea for this one!]
Adjective Fun
After students have had a chance to play in the mud - squish it between their fingers, make mud pies, etc. - invite them to brainstorm a list of words {adjectives} that describe the mud. Gritty. Squishy. Brown. Wet. The fabulous part - when finished, students will pick their favorite adjectives from the list and use them to complete a poem!
