"What is your favorite kind of apple?" Graphing Activity
We stumbled upon Martha Shehan's kindergarten blog, Mrs. Shehan's Full Day Kindergarten, and it looks like she and her kiddos had a blast celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day! Along with making applesauce, crafting 'pot' hats, reading the Seuss-favorite Ten Apples Up On Top!, and exploring color words with the emergent reader Martha created, they also practiced graphing!
In the hands-on activity, students first sampled different colored apples - yellow, green, and red - determining which was their favorite. Then, as a class, they compiled their responses and graphed the results to see what color apple was most preferred by the class. What we love is that Martha and her kinders created two different graphs. The first graph they created using student pictures and the second, for a fun twist, they used actual apples!
