Rhyming with Dr. Seuss
No reviews
We love this activity from Jo over at Making Learning Fun because, not only will it make a great addition to your Dr. Seuss unit {he is, after all, the 'King of rhyme'}, it is a fabulous activity for any time of year! The download offers 30 cards/15 rhyming pairs in total and can be used for lots of great activities! Here are some of our favorite ideas {and crowd-pleasers!}...
- Divide students into groups, providing each with a full set of cards. Laying the cards face down on a flat surface, have students test their memory/matching skills with a game of concentration.
- Set the cards up using a pocket chart. Display one half of each rhyming pair on the chart, inviting individual students {or pairs of students} to place the rest of the cards next to their match.
- Mix the cards up in a paper bag, having each student take turns drawing a card. On your count, invite students to find their match. Once everyone is matched, have students return their cards to the bag and complete the activity again! [NOTE: For extra fun, time yourselves and try to beat your record!]
- Have a rhyming relay race. Print and laminate two sets of cards, dividing students into groups of two as well. Clearing a place in the classroom, set one half of each rhyming pair on a desk on one side of the room, and the rest of the cards in a basket on the floor on the opposite side of the room. Invite each team to line up behind their basket. On your count, invite the first players to select a card from the basket, run to the cards on the opposite side of the room, select the appropriate match, and run back to get the cards approved. Once you've accepted the matches, the next students in line completes the same process. The first team to complete all their matches, wins!
These are just a few of the fun activities you can do with these fabulous rhyming cards from Making Learning Fun! Be sure to head on over there for the free download!
