Preschool Goes to the Beach
Want a creative way to bring summer to your students? Try this beach-themed sensory tub from No Time For Flash Cards!
Supplies You'll Need
- Sand
- Decorative pebbles
- Seashells
- Beach shovel and rake
- Large glass beads
- Plastic sea animals
Begin by adding sand to your sensory table. Allie suggests using two different types - one fine grain sand and one course grain sand - for a greater sensory experience. Have your students use the plastic shovels and rakes to help you mix the two substances together.
Next, add the sea shells, pebbles, glass beads, and sea toys. Your students will have fun digging, filling their pails, smoothing the sand, burying items, finding items, counting, sorting, you name it!
Follow up your sensory time with a song and some good reading. Beach books that Allie suggests include:
- Otto Goes to the Beach by Todd Parr
- Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach by Melanie Watt
- What Lives in a Shell by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld
