Halloween and Spider Themed Letter Matching Preschool Lesson Plan

We just loved the spider/spider web clip art images that we found over at My Cute Graphics and thought they'd make a fun Halloween activity! This upper and lower case letter match will help your preschoolers build letter recognition skills as well as provide them with a bit of printing practice and practice following directions. Not to mention you can download the activity printables for free!

Activity preparation...

Download the free activity printables.
Print the upper case letter webs onto card stock in assorted bright colors. Cut out and laminate to reduce wear and tear.
Print the lower case letter spiders onto a sheet of white card stock and use a 1" circle punch (or scissors) to cut them out. If you plan to save the activity for future use, we suggest laminated the pieces to reduce wear and tear.
Create an envelope for each web and its matching letter spiders {see below}. Label the envelopes 1 through 5 to correspond with the numbered webs on the recording sheet freebie. [NOTE: Four of the webs have five letter combinations and one web has six letter combinations. Make sure that the web with six letter combinations is placed in the envelope labeled with the number 5. The order of the other webs does not matter.]

1) Invite students to select an envelope and dump out the contents, matching the lower case letter spiders to their appropriate place on the upper case letter web.

2) To record their work, have students identify the number on the front of their activity envelope, find the web with the corresponding numeral on their recording sheet, and use a crayon to color the web to match the upper case letter web. In the spaces provided under the web, have students print each upper/lower case letter pair found on the web.
