Every preschool teacher knows that play dough has an expiration date. This doesn't have anything to do with manufacturing, just normal wear and tear. Despite proper play etiquette, colors get mixed and dulled, the dough picks up crumbs and fuzzies from contact with the floor, improper container sealing causes the dough to dry out, and the list goes on. Amanda, stay at home mom and creator of the blog Funny Days With Mommy and Maddie, suggests making your own! It'll allow you to keep play dough fresh and vibrant without breaking the bank!

Homemade Play Dough Recipe

2 cups water
2 TBSP vegetable oil
1 cup salt
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 cups flour

Combine all ingredients in a large pan. Place on the stove and, over medium heat, stir together to remove lumps and until the mixture thickens resembling dough. Remove from pan and place onto the counter-top, kneading dough until smooth. Set aside to cool completely. For Back-To-School Fun

Add cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, and red food coloring during the 'cooking' process to create Apple Pie Play Dough. You could even add some red or silver glitter for interest.

For Fall Fun

Add pumpkin pie spice, orange food coloring, and gold glitter to create Pumpkin Pie Play Dough.

For Winter Fun

Add vanilla extract and silver glitter to create Snow Play Dough.
